Six Important Tips for Internet Security
1. Shut off your laptop or system when it is not in use.
2. Your password should be a combination of letters and numbers with one capital letter and one character. Don’t share it with others!
3. Look for https:// as the beginning of the address of a secure website. Don’t forget to log out!
4. Don’t click attachments, click links or respond to emails from strangers or from friends with unusual messages in the subject line. e.g.- weight loss, moneymaking, real estate, lottery wins, business opportunities.
5. Make sure you have a good anti-virus program. Schedule some clean-up and TLC for your system every two weeks. Ask a family member or have ElfHelp teach you how!
6. If you get an emergency email from your credit card company or bank, call them to confirm it is legitimate. This is a common scam used to capture and abuse personal information.
